Electrical Outlet Installation

Upgrade Your Home's Power Safely

Here in Orlando, the combination of relentless summer heat and daily thunderstorms puts incredible strain on a home's electrical system. For those of us in classic homes from the 60s and 70s, common in neighborhoods from College Park to Casselberry, original outlets and switches can become dangerous points of failure under modern loads. At Spectrum Electric Inc., we specialize in evaluating and upgrading these older systems. Our work isn't a quick fix; it's a long-term solution designed to provide safety and peace of mind for decades to come, whether we're replacing a single faulty outlet or installing a full suite of smart dimmers.

Types of Outlets We Install

GFCI Outlets
(Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter)

A GFCI outlet is a life-saving device, plain and simple. It constantly measures the electrical current, and if it detects even the slightest imbalance, like current flowing through water or, critically, a person, it shuts off power in a fraction of a second. Given our Florida lifestyle of pools, spas, and outdoor kitchens, these devices go well beyond a code requirement. They are an uncompromising layer of safety that Spectrum Electric Inc. considers essential for protecting your family from electric shock.

USB Outlets

While charging adapters are common, they are often low-quality and create clutter. We install high-powered, dedicated USB-A and USB-C outlets that provide faster, more reliable charging for your devices without monopolizing your standard plugs. By integrating this technology directly into your wall, we create a clean, modern, and highly functional solution for your kitchen island, home office, or bedside table.

Outdoor & Weatherproof Outlets

Central Florida's intense sun, humidity, and torrential rain demand more than a simple plastic flap over an outlet. We install commercial-grade, "while-in-use" weatherproof covers that protect the connection even when something is plugged in. Whether you're running a pool pump in Winter Garden or landscape lighting in Lake Nona, a properly sealed outdoor outlet is critical for preventing electrical shorts, corrosion, and dangerous shock hazards.

Tamper-Resistant Outlets

Required by the National Electrical Code in all new home construction, tamper-resistant receptacles (TRRs) have spring-loaded shutters that block the slots unless a two-pronged plug is inserted correctly. This simple, mechanical feature provides a permanent, reliable solution to prevent children from inserting foreign objects, offering a crucial layer of protection and peace of mind for your family.

Where Are GFCI Outlets Required in Florida?

The Florida Building Code and NEC are not just suggestions; they are minimum safety standards developed from decades of data on electrical accidents. GFCI protection is mandated in any area where electricity and water could potentially meet, creating a clear and non-negotiable safety net in the most vulnerable parts of your home.

Smart Switches and Dimmers

Dimmer Switches

Modern dimmer switches offer far more than just ambiance control. By reducing the power sent to your fixtures, they can lower energy consumption and dramatically increase the lifespan of your bulbs. We ensure the dimmers we install are fully compatible with your specific lighting, from incandescent to modern LEDs, preventing the flickering or buzzing that often results from mismatched components.

Smart Switches

We specialize in installing professional-grade smart switches from trusted brands like Lutron and Leviton that seamlessly integrate with your smart home ecosystem. Correct installation is critical, because many smart switches require a neutral wire that's missing in older homes, a detail DIY attempts often overlook. We ensure the wiring is 100% correct, giving you reliable control via voice commands, apps, or automated schedules for enhanced security and convenience.

Signs You Need Outlet Repair

A malfunctioning outlet isn't an inconvenience; it's a clear warning sign of a hidden electrical hazard. These issues are a primary cause of house fires, and they never resolve themselves. At Spectrum Electric Inc., we treat these symptoms with the seriousness they deserve, because your family's safety is our absolute priority. Call us immediately if you notice any of the following:

Warm Faceplates

An outlet should never feel hot to the touch.

Sparking

If you see a blue or orange spark every time you plug an appliance in, the contacts inside are likely worn out.

Buzzing Sounds

Electricity should be silent. A buzzing noise suggests loose wiring.

Plugs Falling Out

If a plug won't stay firmly in the outlet, the internal grips are worn, which can lead to arcing.

Customer Reviews

What Our Central Florida Customers Say

Spectrum was great. I called several companies for a quote to run electric from the house to backyard shed. Spectrum was one of the only ones who called me back and came our right away and gave me a quote. I felt like the wanted my business. We scheduled the work for a few days later both Alex and Jason showed up on time and were done when they said they would be. Very thorough, professional, made sure they did everything we needed, took time to answer any questions we had. I would definitely use them again and recommend them. Great company and great people.

Patricia Montanez

Casselberry, Florida

FANATASTIC experience with Spectrum. The electrician was very efficient and thorough with the job. We got a new light fixture in our pantry and Alex walked us through all our options. When he was done with the installation, he troubleshooted it to make sure it was working exactly the way we wanted it. Before he left, he cleaned the area he was working in. I highly recommend this company! Extremely professional, knowledgeable, and affordable!

Christopher Leftakis

Casselberry, Florida

A great experience with Spectrum Electric. Alex came out in person and estimated the work to be performed (rewire entire house). Besides being affordable, they've been very professional, and strong communication with us every step of the way. I would recommend them for any project large or small.

Lorraine Whitman

Casselberry, Florida

Spectrum has been out to our home three times now and has done incredibly work each time. They are prompt, professional and efficient. I first used them to update all recommendations from our home purchase inspection. They were able to test/update/replace every single outlet. This helped address a recent short we experienced in my sons room. Now I know we are up to code and my baby is safe! Most recently, I needed a new outlet out put in. They were busy but still made time to squeeze us in and now my freezer works! I will surely use them for all of my electrical needs.

Hillary Ubben

Casselberry, Florida

I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome of the services performed by Spectrum Electric! They were amazing with explaining everything to me, repairing what needed to be done and making my kitchen light up! They were quick, on time, clean and were reasonably priced. I will definitely use them in the future and highly recommend.

Frequently Asked Questions

We believe an informed homeowner is a safer homeowner. Here, we provide clear, direct answers to the most common questions we hear about outlets and switches, helping you understand the "why" behind the work so you can make confident decisions for your home.

Still have questions?

The basic cost to install a new electrical outlet typically ranges from $150 to $350 per outlet, depending on your home's wiring. We provide transparent, upfront pricing after assessing your specific needs.

GFCI outlets are sensitive by design. Common causes include moisture in the outlet box, a faulty appliance plugged into it, too many devices on the circuit, or the GFCI outlet itself may be worn out. We can diagnose the source and fix it.

Simply swapping the faceplate without adding a ground wire is a code violation and potentially dangerous. The safe options are to rewire with a ground, install a GFCI outlet (which is legal without a ground), or leave it as is and use adapters. We'll advise on the best approach for your home.

While Florida law allows homeowners to do some of their own electrical work, mistakes can lead to fire hazards, electrocution, or failed inspections when you try to sell your home. A licensed electrician ensures the work is safe, up to code, and documented.
