What kind of electrical projects does Spectrum Electric take on?
Most of ours are the jobs nobody puts in a brochure. A fire pump room. A trench full of PVC sweeps waiting on inspection. A switchboard with the A, B, C and N bus bars still open, sitting there while four reels of feeder get pulled in from the next room.
The seven projects below cover the range our crews actually work in. A five story apartment building framed in block and wood. A Cadillac dealership going up inside a tilt wall shell. A municipal water supply facility. Two retail stores, one of which stayed open to customers the whole time. A distribution warehouse with its own fire pump. And a home office in Winter Park that needed three circuits and a ceiling box. Some of these ran for months with a general contractor, a crane and a rented telehandler on site. One took a single van, a ladder and an afternoon.
What ties them together is that the electrical never gets the site to itself. At the warehouse the 6 inch sprinkler riser went in first, so our conduit had to route around it. How do you keep a building running while the electrical work is going in?
You plan the temporary power before you plan anything else. On the apartment job that meant weatherproof GFCI receptacle assemblies screwed to a plywood board on a stud, fed with cord and hung where the framers and the plumbers could both reach them, plus strings of temporary lamps down every corridor so the trades could keep working after the sun dropped behind the tree line.
Retail is a different problem. The Bealls store never closed. Customers were shopping under the same rows of fixtures our tech was standing under on a ladder, which meant cones and caution signs went out before the tools did, and the aisle got put back the way we found it before we moved to the next one. Verification matters just as much. A clamp meter on the lighting circuit reading 283 volts tells you the branch is live and healthy before anyone reinstalls a lens.

Who handles the underground, the service gear and the backup power?
We do, and on most of these jobs it was all three. Underground is where the schedule is won or lost, because the duct bank has to be in and inspected before anyone pours. That is why several of these galleries are mostly dirt: sweeps racked and glued in an open trench, a plate compactor working the backfill in lifts, a core drilled through an existing slab so a light pole feed could cross a finished parking area without cutting the whole thing up.
The service side runs from the pad to the panel. At the Lady Lake store that meant ABB switchboard sections, feeders pulled off four reels and landed on bus bars stamped A, B, C and N, then a RavenVolt standby unit set on its pad outside and terminated into the gear beside it. At the water plant the same logic applied to a transfer switch marked Source 1 and a motor control cabinet rigged into place by chain hoist.
